Culver’s Dinner Night OutEvery 6 months, we can hold a Dinner Night Out at the Crystal Lake Culver’s.  It is a great way to fundraise while having some fun…all in 3 hours time!  The PTO is looking for a new coordinator to run these Dinner Night Out events.  Joy Zaehringer will help you learn the ropes.  It’s not a huge time commitment but will require coordinating student servers and adult volunteers, possibly setting up an incentive contest too.  If you are interested in learning more, contact Joy Zaehringer at rascallyrabbitme@hotmail.com.

Book Fair and Ice Cream Social Thank you to all who came out to the Book Fair and Ice Cream Social on October 19th.  We had a great turn out.  Pictures from the event are on the PTO’s Facebook Wall https://www.facebook.com/Eastview-Elementary-PTO-Algonquin-IL-474317089302797/.

Fall Raffle Ticket FundraiserIn an effort to further the ability to meet our budget needs for this year, we have extended the raffle ticket selling period to Monday, November 1st.  If you have already turned in your unsold tickets or need more tickets, please contact Ed Mudra at ardum94@gmail.com to request more tickets.  Aidan Holmes of Mrs. Sawyer’s 3rd Grade Class won the Nick’s Pizza & Pub Package and Party Starter Wireless Speaker in the raffle drawing of all the Eastview students who turned in their 10 sold tickets during the first week of sales.  Ashley McAtee of Mr. Mertogul’s 5th Grade Class won the $25 Wood Creek Restaurant Gift Card and Bluetooth Shower Speaker for being the 2nd highest seller.  And big props go out to Addison Carroll of Mrs. Grueter’s 2nd Grade Class for being the top seller.  Addison won a $25 Buffalo Wild Wings Gift Certificate and Bluetooth Shower Speaker.  [All restaurant prizes were donated by each establishment.  We would like to especially thank them for their generosity and support.  Thank you!]  A huge thank you to all the students and parents who sold tickets thus far.  Without your hard work, we would not be able to fund school assemblies, field trips, etc.

Halloween Parties – Halloween falls on a Monday this year and an early release (11:45 a.m.)  from school day too.  Information will come be forthcoming on the day’s schedule.  If you are a party coordinator and have not received your party volunteer information, please contact Dawn Jackson at dawn.jackson66@yahoo.com.  Don’t forget that the PTO has a Pinterest wall full of party pins… check us out at https://www.pinterest.com/eastviewpto/.

Class Concert 1st Row Seating w/Parking Space Silent Auctions In an effort to think “outside the box” to raise funds for new water fountains, the PTO has been given permission to hold a silent auction for 4 front row seats + 1 preferred parking space for each grade’s evening school concert.  If you have ever attended an Eastview event, you know that the preferred parking spot is worth it’s weight in gold alone, now add that fabulous front row seating to boot and you have a prize worth coveting!  The first school concert is on November 9th for the 5th Grade.  More detailed information will follow.  And remember, the PTO Facebook Wall is the best place to find updates on things happening right now with the PTO.

Box Tops/Labels for Education/Coke Points CollectionDon’t forget to keep those Box Tops/Labels for Education and Coke Points coming!  Every little bit helps our school.  The November 9th Prize Raffle will be for 2 Jersey Mike’s Subs w/chips.  Each unexpired Box Top, Labels for Education or Coke Point you turn in earns you 1 point and 10 points earn you 1 raffle chance.  It takes just 1 raffle chance to win!  Be careful… don’t hold onto your box tops for a “someday” submission… November 1st is the first expiration date of this school year – the last date for Box Tops pickup for this submission is FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28TH.  If you have them… turn them in now please.  If you don’t want to win the Jersey Mike’s raffle, simply write BANK on your baggie and we will credit your account for future use toward any contest you wish to enter.

PTO Weekly News

Where has the time gone?  Seems like the first day of school was just yesterday and yet we have already accomplished so many things… we kicked off our first PTO meeting on September 7th, assisted the Staff with breakfast dishes on the Ceremonial Patriot’s Day on September 9th to host our distinguished First Responders, Veterans, Active Military officers and recruits after the event, and knocked it out of the park with our first Teacher Appreciation Luncheon for the school year on September 15th! So much appreciation to those parents who helped with yummy donated dishes or money to purchase paper products and food – couldn’t do it it without all of you and our generosity.

So many things coming up… where to begin?  Well, let’s go in date order…

  • Our first Movie Night is Friday, September 30th from 6-8:30 pm  We will be showing the recently released, The Jungle Book. We will have your typical movie theater concessions – Popcorn, soda/pop, water, cotton candy, chocolates, candies, etc. for sale. ——Volunteers Needed——
  • Monday, October 3rd, we will be kicking off our annual Fall Fundraiser selling tickets to raise money for (4) Filtered Water Bottle water fountains, to reduce plastic waste and provide better tasting water for our kids; a water fountain outside on the playground and Assembly Risers for class performances. Just these few things cost almost $10,000.  This is the same fundraiser we have run for the past couple of years – $10.00 ticket purchases for chance raffle draws at the future PTO meetings.  To add a bit of fun, we have set up incentive prizes this year for our sellers.  More information to follow.  Watch our Facebook wall (https://www.facebook.com/Eastview-Elementary-PTO-Algonquin-IL-474317089302797/) for more information.
  • PTO Meeting #2 is an Evening get together at 6:30 pm on October 12th.  We will have some light appetizers and a non-alcohol Sangria-like punch and refreshing Spa Water. We will talk about what the school is up to, Movie Night sales, a preliminary update on the fundraiser, as well as up and coming events to close out 2016.  This is your opportunity to get your thoughts and ideas listened to, not to mention, know what’s going on in your school before the rest of the parents.
  • Don’t forget to send your unexpired Box Tops, Labels for Education and Coke Points in with your son/daughter.  Each item counts as 1 point, every 10 points results in your son/daughter’s name being entered into the monthly drawing done at the end of each PTO meeting.  If you aren’t  interested in that month’s prize, you can write BANK of your bag (along with your son/daughter’s name and teacher’s name and your email address so you can be updated on your bank balance each month) and your points will grow in your bank until you request all or part of your balance be used for a contest.  We have added classroom contests too.  All points (banked or otherwise) will be counted toward the classroom contest.  (see posters below for more information)
  • Wednesday, October 19th is our Scholastic Fall Book Fair and Ice Cream Social.  The 18th is a preview day for the students and an opportunity to buy if they will not be able to come on the 19th at 6:00-8:00 pm. Many of the books in the flyers that just came home this week will be there next month. We will need some volunteers to bake brownies for this event.  Book fair sales goes to assist our Media Center only, while the Ice Cream Social sales will go toward our above goals.  We will also have cotton candy this year.
  • Halloween Parties, October 31st will be in the MORNING because it is also an Early Release Day.

CORRECTION to PTO Weekly News

Correction to 1st Day of School date… the correct day is TUESDAY, August 16th, NOT WEDNESDAY, August 16th.  Sorry for the confusion.

Meet the Teacher on is Friday, August 12th.  Last names beginning with A-L from 12:30-1:00 p.m.; M-Z from 1:00-1:30 p.m.  Please remember,  parking is horrible that day so plan accordingly.  This is the time to drop off any school supplies you have purchased already (remainder can be sent with your child on the first day of school – Wednesday [Tuesday], August 16th).  There is a separate Curriculum Night (aka Orientation) on Tuesday, August 23rd with Grades 3-5 at 6:00-6:45 p.m. and Grades K-2 at 7:15-8:00 p.m. which will be when your child(ren)’s teacher(s) will guide you through their school year teaching plan, etc.

Hope to see you all at our PTO Back To School Swim Event this Saturday, August 13th at the Algonquin Park District Swimming Pool (directly across from Eastview).  Through the generous donations of our Community Sponsors, Mathnasium of Algonquin and the Algonquin Meijers Store, the PTO will be serving FREE hotdogs/chips/drinks and Snow Cones! from 6:15-6:45 p.m.  The swim event will open at 6:30 p.m. and Mr. Z will address the crowd and perform his famous Cannonball off the diving board at 6:50 p.m.  You definitely don’t want to miss that!

The PTO is looking for a few volunteers to help with this event starting at 5:45 p.m. with set up and working food tables to 7:15 p.m. (with break to see Z perform his cannonball) to tear down.  We are looking for 30 minute commitments from each volunteer so you won’t miss out on much of the fun.  Please contact Joy Zaehringer at rascallyrabbitme@hotmail.com if you can help.  Together we can make this first back to school event something our kids will remember all year long!  This event is FREE and will end at 8:30 p.m.
